World says goodbye to Mikaben in SoFlorida tribute viewed worldwide

Family, friends, musicians and fans celebrated the life of Michael Benjamin, the musician known as Mikaben, at the Miramar Cultural Center on Sunday, Nov. 6.

Attendees, encouraged to wear all white, shared condolences with the family outside the auditorium. Every seat in the auditorium was filled, and the event was live streamed on the outside lawn for those who could not make it in. Haitian musicians and friends sang a mix of gospel songs and Mikaben originals and family shared fond memories of him.

When his wife Vanessa Benjamin arrived, they unveiled a sculpture dedicated to Mikaben. He died Oct. 15 in Paris, France, during a Carimi concert. His collapse as he left the stage was widely broadcast across the globe, drawing tributes and condolences the world over.
