US extends TPS for Haitians, but advocates call for more


Starting today, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) will be available for some Haitian immigrants, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

In a notice, DHS said the TPS designation is scheduled to go into effect on Nov. 16. 

TPS allows for beneficiaries to safely remain in the United States and work as long as the designation period is active, apply for a work permit and obtain travel authorization.
