At the turn of the 19th century, self-liberated slaves in Haiti staged a series of insurrections that are now known as the Haitian Revolution, resulting in the first free Black nation in the world. You can learn more about the events and key actors of the revolution at this virtual talk hosted by the Haitian American Museum of Chicago, which is being held in honor of the museum’s 2021 Haitian Heritage Month celebration. Hear from museum educator and historian Benjamin Henderson in a comprehensive lecture on the subject and stick around afterwards for a question-and-answer session.
