As Washington Commanders fans cheer on the team against the Cleveland Browns Sunday, members of a small Rockville church plan to pray for Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz.
Haitian American members of Havre De Grace Seventh-day Adventist Church said they were grateful to Carson Wentz after the quarterback’s charitable foundation, Audience of One, completed a nearly 19,000 square feet sports complex for kids in Haiti — the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere.
“He has put up this fabulous sports complex … it’s really like a boys and girls club for the kids there who are very poor. It keeps them off the streets. They feed them,” said Rocky Twyman, a spokesman for Havre De Grace Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Twyman said that Wentz donated a substantial sum of money to Haiti’s earthquake recovery in 2021.
“Carson Wentz believes in prayer, and prayer can make the impossible things come true,” Twyman told WTOP.
Carson Wentz’s foundation aims to uplift individuals and communities worldwide by demonstrating God’s love for his people. The foundation also operates a mobile food truck to feed the hungry and an outdoor ministry serving children with life-threatening illnesses.
The church’s members plan to gather at the pastor’s home in Maryland to watch Sunday’s game and root on QB Wentz.
“We really want him to win, man. We want him to go on the Super Bowl,” Twyman said.
Whether anchoring the news inside the Glass-Enclosed Nerve Center or reporting from the scene in Maryland, Virginia or the District, Dick Uliano is always looking for the stories that really impact people’s lives.
