The Revere High football team defeated Belmont, 28-0, Thursday afternoon and now awaits its annual Thanksgiving game versus Winthrop which will be held Nov. 25 at 10 a.m. at Harry Della Russo Stadium.
Running back Davi Barreto, who has had an impressive junior season, rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns to lead Revere, who led 21-0 after one quarter.
Senior quarterback Anwar Marbouh connected with junior running back Domenic Boudreau for a 35-yard touchdown pass for the game’s first score. Boudreau also rushed for a touchdown. Marbouh was 8-for-12 for 139 yards passing.
Team captain and placekicker Wilmer Mejia Rodriguez was 4-of-4 on PATs.
Revere raised its record to 7-2.
Goncalves, Doucette Earn Herald Honors
Team captains Augusto Goncalves and Max Doucette were selected as Boston Herald “Star of the Week” for their defensive efforts in the shutout of Belmont. The duo combined for several sacks of the Belmont quarterback.
“They played really well,” said Revere head coach Lou Cicatelli. “Our defense was spectacular.”
Junior linebacker Chris Cassidy had an interception late in the game.
Revere Hosts Winthrop on Thanksgiving Morning
Revere will be facing a strong Winthrop team that qualified for the Division 6 playoffs. The Vikings (5-5) defeated South Hadley, 35-0, in their first-round game, but fell to Rockland, 37-34 in the quarterfinals.
“We’re getting ready for Winthrop,” said Coach Cicatelli. “It’s going to be a good football game. They’re very good.”
The two teams share one common opponent, Peabody.
The Tanners defeated Revere, 28-7, in the season opener, and Winthrop, 35-21, on Oct. 1. Peabody (6-5) won the NEC South Division title but did not qualify for the state playoffs.
Revere has an opportunity to finish its season with an 8-2 record.
“I think going 8-2 would say a lot about our program and our seniors, and everything we tried to achieve this year,” said Coach Cicatelli. “I think it will open some eyes, and I think the playoff system should look at a team that went 8-2 and didn’t get a playoff berth.”
