Recusal of judge investigating assassination in Haiti requested – Prensa Latina

Etienne wrote to the magistrate investigating the assassination of former President Jovenel Moïse and denounced alleged relations with influential members of the Inite party who, in her opinion, were involved in the crime.
She mentioned, among others, former Minister of Justice Paul Denis, as well as former Police Director Leon Charles, who allegedly paid bribes to Judge Garry Orelien to avoid being linked to the inquiry.
She added that relations among Judge Walther Wesser Voltaire and Leon Charles, current Prime Minister Ariel Henry, Paul Denis, and fugitive Joseph Felix Badio may hinder the investigation.
Wednesday marked 17 months since the assassination of the former head of State in his residence, with no clear progress in the investigation, which has already been conducted by another four investigating judges.
According to preliminary inquiries, an armed commando made up of former Colombian military personnel assassinated the then-president and fired several shots at Martine, who had to undergo surgery to recover from her wounds.
At least 18 South Americans are being held at the National Penitentiary along with dozens of police officers and Haitian citizens with US residency or citizenship.
