Bridging the gap
Police have arrested a woman who faked her own kidnapping, raising about USD $7,100 from relatives and friends who collected it to pay for her release, Haitian police said.
Fanette Dorcé came up with the deception to raise money toward the release of her jailed boyfriend, whom she met on Facebook.
The first manufactured kidnapping happened in November and Dorcé made $4,100 ransom from her unsuspecting family. The presiding judge did not release her boyfriend, so Dorcé faked her kidnapping again in April and received $3,000. Source
