Palm Beach County School District Celebrates Haitian Heritage Month in May – Palm Beach Schools

The School District of Palm Beach County is commemorating Haitian Heritage Month, the annual observance recognizing the valuable contributions made by Haitians to the history of the world. It is a celebration of Haitian history and culture and an opportunity to share the culture with the community.
District schools will hold a variety of activities, and community events throughout the County will also be organized. Additionally, the Palm Beach County Library System will host several events. The School District’s Multicultural Education Department has scheduled four virtual motivational sessions with speakers and role models who will speak to students and their teachers during their classes.
This year’s events include the annual Haitian Heritage Month Essay Contest for high school students, sponsored by Gaskov Clergé Foundation, Educa Vision Inc., Triple VMC Global Services, and other business partners.
The theme of the contest asks student entrants to explore this question: “From a historical perspective, explain the setbacks that have hindered Haiti’s development, and suggest ways to overcome them.” Winners of the contest will be recognized during an event at the Lantana Branch Library on Saturday, May 14, at 2:30 p.m., where they will receive their prizes and read their essays to the public.
