GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM
GOAL has been operational in Haiti since 2010, when it responded to a major earthquake that claimed more than 250,000 lives and had a significant impact on more than a million more. In the years following the earthquake, GOAL’s objectives focused on recovery efforts to help people affected by humanitarian crises obtain decent housing, clean water and other basic needs. Since 2016, the GOAL programme has been transitioning to a long-term development agenda while maintaining its capacity to respond to ongoing humanitarian crises resulting from major and frequent weather and seismic threats, as well as outbreaks of vector-borne and waterborne diseases. The GOAL programme currently focuses on inclusive economic development, disaster preparedness and response, sustainable urban development and building resilience.
