Haitian, soul food and more coming to BellaVista food hub in downtown Stockton – Stockton Record
Up-and-coming local chefs plan to serve Haitian, Puerto Rican, vegan Mexican and soul food during lunchtime hours at BellaVista Rooftop starting on Monday, according to a Facebook post by BellaVista.
Every weekday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., diners at 110 N. El Dorado St. will be able to choose from several cuisines being offered at the “international food hub,” the post said.
Chefs plan to serve diverse dishes including mac and cheese, collard greens, candied yams, gumbo, creole stewed chicken, the fried plantain dish mofongo and more, according to posts on the Stockton Community Kitchen International Food Hub page.
Stores are ‘bouncing back’:Here are 5 new restaurants to try in Stockton
The hub is a project of the Stockton Community Kitchen, a nonprofit founded by BellaVista owner Rima Barkett which provides mentorship to help low-income entrepreneurs launch their restaurants.
Restaurants participating in the food hub include the Southern-style soul food restaurant Chef Net Soulfood; the Haitian, African and American restaurant KreHaitian; and Koquito, which serves Puerto Rican and plant-based cuisine.
The food hub is the latest example of community projects BellaVista has hosted amid the pandemic. In October 2020, the restaurant hosted a socially-distanced study hub for local students, created by the nonprofit Reinvent Stockton, in its rooftop space.
What’s new in downtown Stockton? Chicken-and-waffle cupcakes, coworking and craft beer
In April 2020, Stockton Community Kitchen chefs used BellaVista’s kitchen to cook meals from donated food to be distributed to needy families and older people.
Diners who visit the international food hub’s opening on April 4 will have an opportunity to meet the chefs, BellaVista’s post said.
