Haitian PM vows to support domestic agriculture – Prensa Latina

PM Henry admitted the government bears responsibility for guaranteeing Haitians to find in sufficient quantity and at affordable prices the necessary food.
He also pointed out his government cannot rely solely on solidarity support by humanitarian agencies to aid the poorest, so he encouraged to boost domestic food production by providing local farmers with necessary inputs including machinery, seeds and fertilizers.
Currently, nearly half of Haiti’s population is food insecure and 1.5 million are in emergency phase.
Plus, about 20,000 people in Cité Soleil, a large poor neighborhood in the north of Port-au-Prince, for the first time are facing up starvation.
PM Henry stressed Haiti has the capacity to produce food and considered it counterproductive to import some food products that can be cultivated in the country.
He also pledged to make use of pressing resources to make a significant turnaround in the crackdown on the lack of access to food for millions of citizens in 2023.
In this regard, Henry announced Haiti is one of the States that will benefit from the Food Shock Window Program that will aid nations really hard-hit by the Russia-Ukraine conflict aftermaths.
