Haitian newsmakers of 2022 – The Haitian Times

Emerging from the pandemic, Haitians came out in full force in all arenas to grab headlines across the diaspora. From the start of 2022, Haiti’s crises energized people to advocate for a Haitian-led solution and anti-Black immigration policies. Midway through, the need to recognize the richness of Haiti’s culture and how former colonizers wronged the country gained much news coverage. The latter part of the year brought on a peyilòk in Haiti so severe, cholera came back and, for the first time, the international community imposed sanctions on moguls and politicians long suspected of backing gangs.

Hailing from the U.S., Haiti and across the diaspora, these newsmakers best reflect the news – both the crises and the contributions – out of Haiti and Haitian communities worldwide.
