Between October 2010 and February 2019, over 820,000 cases of cholera, including nearly 10,000 deaths, were reported in Haiti.
On October 20, 2010, an outbreak of cholera was confirmed in Haiti for the first time in more than a century, ten months after the catastrophic earthquake that killed over 200,000 people and displaced over 1 million.
After more than 3 years with no cases of cholera reported in Haiti, on 2 October 2022, the national authorities reported two confirmed cases of Vibrio cholerae O1 in the greater Port-au-Prince area.
Since that notification in early October 2022 and through October 30, the Ministère de la Santé Publique et de la Population (MSPP) reported a total of 3,429 suspected cases in 6 departments of the country, including 399 confirmed cases, 2,942 hospitalized suspected cases, and 89 registered deaths.
