Culp's Haiti facility gets high-level visitors – Furniture Today

OUANAMINTHE, Haiti – Members of the U.S. Embassy recently visited the Culp Upholstery Fabrics facility located in the CODEVI industrial park which sits on the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Culp was one of only two facilities selected by the CODEVI leadership for the embassy tour.
Edgar Alfaro, general manager of Culp’s Haiti facilities, along with members of the leadership team for Culp Upholstery Fabrics Haiti – including Monica Sanchez, Silvia Garcia, and Massiel Marcelino – conducted the tour.
Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic Robert Thomas and his team walked the floors of the recently completed building, speaking to Culp employees and learning about the cut-and-sew process.
“While there, I had productive discussions with executives, management staff and workers. The United States wholeheartedly believes that we are most prosperous when we work together to advance our shared economic interests, to create an environment in which both peoples can prosper,” Thomas posted on his Twitter page after the tour.
In addition to the tour, Culp management gave a presentation to the embassy visitors highlighting the many initiatives that make the company a preferred employer in the CODEVI park.
These initiatives include monthly round tables where employees can share concerns or needs and propose improvements for any area. Leadership training and classes are also held on-site regularly, with promotions and graduations celebrated.
“In all of our Culp facilities, we strive to cultivate a company culture that feels like family, a culture of acceptance, inclusivity and opportunity,” said Teresa Huffman, Culp senior vice president of human resources.
Culp manufactures mattress fabrics for bedding and upholstery fabrics for residential and commercial furniture. The company markets a variety of fabrics to its global customer base, including fabrics produced at Culp’s manufacturing facilities and fabrics sourced through other suppliers.
