Here are the top stories today in Miami:
1. Miami-Dade County Auditorium will kick off the holiday season on Saturday, Dec. 3 with the “Very Merry Holiday Season.” Programming will include “The Nutcracker,” “Abran las puertas… llegó la Navidad,” and “Christmas Is In The Air” from Florida Chamber Orchestra. (Miami’s Community News)
2. Broward County’s public defender is facing hundreds of death threats after representing convicted Parkland mass murderer Nikolas Cruz, who was sentenced by a jury to life in prison at the conclusion of the sentencing trial. Cruz murdered 17 high school students on Valentine’s Day 2018 and was able to avoid the death penalty in the sentencing trial. The public defender continues to attack the judge in the trial after a public battle between the two during the trial. (WSVN)
3. Miami-Dade County has asked a federal bankruptcy court for permission to immediately end its naming rights deal with FTX and strip the name off the arena where the Miami Heat play. FTX filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 11 and has been subject to numerous controversies. The county and NBA team will lose millions from the deal falling apart. (WPLG Local 10)
4. The Haitian Hitman” is facing criminal charges after police said he bought an AK-47 and planned a mass shooting at a Miami gym. The suspect was previously an Olympic champion and represented Haiti at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. (NBC Miami)
5. The Miami Dolphins were among local sports teams in South Florida giving back to their community by providing families with a meal for Thanksgiving with Feeding South Florida. The effort for distribution was presented by Amazon at the Hard Rock Stadium. Over 500 meal boxes were distributed to families in need. (Miami’s Community News)
